Linux- An open source operating system that is based upon the Unix kernel.
Linux is an Operating System (OS) just like Windows and Mac. It is very basic at its core and is extremely compatible allowing it to be easily changed and added on to. Linux unlike Windows and Mac is open source and can be freely developed and distributed as much as needed. Due to that factor there are thousands of Linux distributions out there. They can range from simple distributions to complex servers and desktops. It can be found in numerous different products from a simple cable box to a space rover. There are hundreds-thousands of Linux Distributions out there that are available to the public for little or no cost.
